If you have received a CBAM request from one of your customers, and you need help finding the steps on how to complete a request, please see this article first: How do I complete requests from my customers?

By sending you a CBAM request, your customer wants you to answer some questions regarding the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) in order to comply with their reporting duties. The CBAM tool aims to establish a fair price for carbon emissions generated during the production of carbon-intensive goods imported into the EU.

For more information on CBAM, please read this article: Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

I. To complete a CBAM Request

Once you have clicked on "complete" next to the respective request under "Pending Requests" in your company profile view (as described in the above article), please proceed as follows:

Answer the questions (depending on your answer, other questions will show up as required or greyed out).

  • If you answer question 1 and 2 with "Yes", questions 3, 4 and 5 will show as required.

  • Depending on your answers to questions 4 and 5, question 6 will show as required or not.

  • For question 6:
  • To enter the relevant CBAM data, download the Excel template.
  • Fill in the template as described in the request.
  • You can also find detailed information in the "Guidance" worksheet.
  • Upload the completed Excel template.
  • You will see a summary of your data in the question. If there are errors in the data (e.g., mandatory errors not filled in), an error message will be displayed. In this case correct the errors and upload the Excel file again.

  • Click "Submit" at the beginning or at the end of the formulary.

II. What do I do if I do not have specific emission data?

If your company has not yet calculated the required data, you can use the CBAM Communication Template for Installations for the calculation, which is provided by the European Union.
