The goal of the Maturity Assessment is to get a general overview of your company's sustainability performance.

I. What do the maturity levels mean?

Upon completing a Maturity Assessment Topic, a result is automatically calculated based on your company's answers to the questions.
Each Topic will receive either a score between 0 and 100, corresponding to one of the first three Maturity levels listed below, or it will be assigned the status "Not applicable":

  • Fully mature: from a high-level perspective, your company has a strong management capacity regarding sustainability and already implemented comprehensive measures to prevent and mitigate potential or actual human rights and environmental risks.

  • Mature: your company has some management capacity regarding sustainability and already implemented basic sustainability measures. Despite a clear need for improvement in some areas, your company is on a good track. Your company can further increase its commitment to sustainability by engaging in collaborations with its customers or other actors in its industry.

  • Premature: your company has not established central policies and processes for sustainability yet. This does not have to mean that your company is not sustainable and transparent. Maybe your company is just still too small to have dedicated processes for sustainability or has just started its sustainability journey. You can still disclose more information like your facilities and your suppliers to increase transparency and trust for your customers.
    Nevertheless, your customers may request you to commit to improvements and to take concrete actions to prevent and mitigate potential or actual human rights and environmental risks.

  • Not applicable: this status is assigned to the corresponding Topics in case it does not apply to your company based on your answer to the first question of the Topic. For instance, if your company does not place any articles or substances subject to REACH or RoHS on the market, the corresponding Topics are "Not applicable". Topics with this status will therefore be excluded from the Overall Maturity Score.

II. How are the limits for the maturity levels set?

The limits for the maturity levels are: < 30% premature, <80% mature, >80% fully mature. The limits result from the statistical distribution of achieved percentages so far.

III. How were the scores behind the maturity levels determined?

On the level of questions:

  • In general, one can achieve between 0 and 2 points per question, depending on the answers provided;
  • Answering "No answer" to a question will always give you the lowest possible score. Therefore, you can potentially improve your score by providing more accurate answers.
  • There are no negative points; the lowest result that can be achieved is 0 - for questions as well as for each Topic or the entire assessment;
  • Not all answers have a score, to make sure the scoring is fair and balanced;
  • Some questions might not need to be answered by you because of your specific situation. These questions will not be taken into account.

On the level of Topics:

  • Question scores are aggregated to a relative score at the level of Topics (e.g. 76 % for the Topic "Climate Action").

Overall:

  • The overall Maturity Score corresponds to the average of the Scores of all the Topics that are mandatory for your company. Topics with the status "Not applicable" are excluded from the Overall Score.

  • If a mandatory Assessment Topic has not been completed, it will count as 0 % in the overall Maturity Score. It is therefore recommended to answer all Topics that are mandatory for your company.
